ASEAN spa standard by 2015

The Thai Ministry of Tourism is working with ASEAN members to develop an ASEAN spa standard, reports Andrew Jacka, president of the Thai Spa Association and chairman of the Asia Pacific Spa Wellness Coalition. The standard is expected to be implemented by 2015.

The new initiative is part of the ASEAN tourism strategic plan that would see an AESAN spa standard aimed at increasing the quality of spa human resources, services and facilities in member countries.

The standard will include a certification process that would be used in all ASEAN countries. Meetings have already been held inThailand,PhilippinesandBrunei.

In other news from Asia Pacific Spa Wellness (APSWC), Warapan Tichan, a student at Sukhothai Commerical School (Bangkok Health & Services Technical College) was Thailand’s entrant in the beauty therapy section of the World Skills competition, where she received a medal of excellence. In late 2010, she received a bronze medal in the Asian Skills competition.
