Centara Trat instals huge beachfront marquee

Marquee Tent

NO MATTER WHAT YOUR BEACHFRONT EVENT plans are, at Centara Chaan Talay Resort & Villas Trat there is a brand new marquee on the sand in front of the resort that is perfect for every purpose.

Ready by the end of April, and with a 1.5 million THB investment, this enormous canvas structure will hold up to 300 guests for a cocktail reception, which makes it ideal for weddings, company gatherings, and special-interest group events.

With theatre-style seating, the marquee will hold 200, with enough space left to set up a buffet lunch or dinner, and classroom seating that will accommodate 200 people – so presentations and seminars will also fit comfortably inside.

The marquee is also suitable for banquets, with room for 20 tables at 10 persons per table, adding up to 200 guests.

The area of the square-shaped marquee can be adapted, with three sizes available, so those planning a smaller event will find themselves in an appropriate space. Total area available is 300 sqm.

The marquee is air-conditioned and features a low-level stage, and a light and sound system – so if you have a presentation or a theatre performance, everything is taken care of. The marquee is also built to withstand any weather conditions.

Evason and Six Senses consolidate at Hua Hin

Six Senses Hua Hin

THE 185-ROOM AND POOL VILLA EVASON HUA HIN will be merged with the adjacent 55-pool villa Six Senses Hua Hinto form one seamless resort branded as Evason Hua Hin, combining the best of both properties”.

The new Evason Hua Hin will offer 95 private pool villas, 145 guestrooms and five outlets for dining and drinks.

The Evason brand has been selected for the combined resort as it addresses the close proximity to Bangkok, which provides a significant family market that enjoys the privacy of pool villas and the vast parklands. It offers eight tennis courts and a host of on-site activities.

Owendelle Company Limited which manages the merged entity under the Evason and Six Senses franchise, have entered into the licence agreement with Sustainable Luxury Thailand, owner of the Evason and Six Senses brands.

Some 20 million Thai Baht will be invested in the combined property this year to enhance facilities. It includes WiFi upgrading, new televisions and a gym. There will also be an over-all refreshment of the resort and guestrooms.

“This is a very positive step forward”, says Alan Thomas, managing director of Evason Hua Hin. “Streamlining the offering to consumers and trade will remove some confusion that has existed in the past. Presenting the property as one entity will mean that we have one website offering eight room and villa types, rather than two sites offering four accommodation types on each.”

Bernhard Bohnenberger, president of Six Senses, adds: “We are delighted with the move, which will enable Evason Hua Hin to incorporate the Six Senses standards and guest experiences into a simplified offering. Evason Hua Hin now has comprehensive accommodation choices from the Hideaway Pool Villas, which offer personal butlers, to the very spacious and beautifully appointed Evason guestrooms.”

With this new agreement in place, Evason Hua Hin continues its special relationship with Six Senses. The property has been part of the Six Senses and Evason Family for over a decade.

It’s April and Songkran Festival time in Thailand

APRIL IS A SPECIAL TIME for Thais. It marks the Thai New Year, celebrated with the water-throwing Songkran Festival, one of the most magical events in the Thai calendar.

This year’s Songkran Festival runs from April 13-15. The national holiday is celebrated on April 12.

The New Year celebrations celebrate the beginning of the new solar year and is known for its water-splashing street parties that symbolize cleansing and purification as well as ceremonies and rituals to convey love and friendship with each other.

Songkran stems from ancient Thai traditions expressed through culture-rich ceremonies and rituals that reflect both the essence of “Thainess”, as well as local beliefs and practices.

Traditionally, the Songkran Festival portrays the typical ways of life of Thais involving agricultural aspects. Younger Thais pay respect to their elders by sprinkling their hands with scented water. The celebration also includes colorful local entertainment.

The unique regions of Thailand each celebrate the festival in different ways. The Lanna community in the North uses the occasion to clean up houses and dress in new clothes.

In the northeast, the tradition is called the Fifth Lunar Month Festival and has Thais paying respect to the ashes of ancestors. In southern Thailand, people take off work and go to temple during Wan Wang, or “free day.”

In central Thailand, the festival is simply called Songkran and residents give food offerings to Buddhist monks
