MOTHER’S DAY is a national holiday in Thailand, where it is celebrated on Aug. 12. It coincides with the birthday of Queen Sirikit.
During the month of August, Thai homes and public places are decorated with portraits of Queen Sirikit. In the morning, an alms-giving ceremony will be held followed by country-wide candle-lighting ceremonies and fireworks in the evening.
