Centara Maris Resort Jomtien opening in December

Centra Maris Resort Jomtien - Junior Suite 03 CENTARA HOTELS & RESORTS will be launching its newest property in Thailand, Centra Maris Resort Jomtien, in mid-December. Jomtien Beach is a short hop from Bangkok – with a new perspective from that of it nearby Pattaya.

It features 282 rooms, suites and residences in total, all designed with a fresh modern style, incorporating clean lines, light wood furnishings and splashes of vivid colours. All offer living spaces of up to 60 square metres, with the option of garden or ocean views.

Pool suites and family residences come complete with a private garden and plunge pool, while each residence can sleep up to 3 adults, or 2 adults and 3 children.

Family-friendly facilities are a specialty of Centara and Centara Maris Jomtien will offer Thailand’s first hobbit-themed Kids’ Club, with Camp Safari for the youngest ones and a teenage-friendly E-Zone where there are engaging activities to keep kids of all ages entertained.

Other facilities worth exploring are the lagoon-shaped swimming pool complete with Jacuzzis as well as a children’s water play area and water slide.

For adults, there’s ‘Cense by SPA Cenvaree’, set over two floors where you can journey through the healing traditions of Southeast Asia. Guests can choose from a broad range of therapies, including massage, body treatment and facials that feature Thai herbs, floral extracts and aromatic oils. A fitness centre also allows for further rejuvenation for the body and mind.

Dining options include an all-day dining venue serving varied buffet-style breakfasts, and an international and Thai à la carte menu for lunch and dinner, with indoor and outdoor dining options.

The resort’s poolside restaurant offers an eclectic selection of quality food & drink, serving everything from fresh seafood and fish to chops and steaks, and perfect burgers with modern twists. In-room dining is available throughout the day. There’s also a the swim-up pool bar — another appealing feature for adult guests.

Centra Maris Resort Jomtien is a one and one-half hour drive from Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport and conveniently close to some of the area’s most iconic attractions, including Koh Lan Island, Underwater World Pattaya, Pattaya Floating Market, and the religious monument, the Sanctuary of Truth.

The over-all area of Jomtien is undergoing a face lift that will make it more attractive to tourists. The facelift includes new sidewalks, building sports, recreation and water facilities, more greenery and playgrounds.

 

 

 

SALA Hospitality Group appoints new group director of sales

SALA Director of SalesSALA HOSPITALITY GROUP, one of Thailand’s luxury boutique hotel groups, has a new director of sales – Benjaporn Magroodtong, who joins SALA with more than 10 years’ experience in luxury hotel sales.

Apart from her professionalism and commitment, she brings great experience in the hotel industry, having worked with Marriott International for the past four years as their director of sales, leisure, at the JW Marriott Phuket.

Prior to that she was director of sales, leisure, for Anantara Hotels in Thailand. Benjaporn will oversee the acquisition and management of all customer relationships both, domestically and internationally, as well as working closely with the overseas sales representations in the German-speaking markets, UK and Australia.

She will be based at SALA’s head office in Bangkok, and will report directly to the group director of business development.

”I am very happy to have Khun Pla on board our SALA team and I am sure that her rich experience in the travel and trade industry will further drive the success of our SALA Resorts and Spas as well as our sala boutique properties,” said Nicolas Reschke, group director of business development.

Thailand Spa & Well-Being award winners

Thai wellbeing overall shot RARINJINDA WELLNESS SPA CHIANG MAI AND CHIVA-SOM were big award winners at this year’s World Spa and Well-Being convention.

Rarinjinda Wellness Spa Chiang Mai received three top awards in the Peoples’ Choice Category – Traditional Thai experience, Destination or Wellness Spa and Amazing Resort Spa.

The awards were presented at a special ceremony attended by leaders in the Thai spa industry and held at the Grand Diamond Ballroom, Impact Exhibition Hall, Bangkok.

Seven other awards were awarded in the Peoples’ Choice Category:

Thailand Spa & Well-being Awards 2015 was organized by Department of International Trade Promotion, Ministry of Commerce, in collaboration with Thailand Spa Association; Department of Tourism; Ministry of Tourism and Sports; Department of Health Service Support; Ministry of Public Health; and Tourism Authority of Thailand.

Celebrating Thai Vegetarian Festival at SALA

SEVERAL SALA HOSPITALITY GROUP resorts will be highlighting a vegetarian option to their menus during this year’s Vegetarian Festival, which runs from Oct. 13-21.

The Thai Vegetarian Festival begins on the 15th day of the waning of the 10th month of the Thai lunar calendar.

Many Thais observe the Vegetarian Festival, even if they do not practice Vegetarianism throughout the year. The festival is popular throughout Thailand, but most especially in areas with large populations of Chinese immigrants, such as Bangkok, Chiang Mai, and Phuket.

During this festival, Thai people practice jay, taken from Chinese Mahayana Buddhism, it means eight precepts observance.

These include the avoidance of eating any animal meat is one of the eight precepts. To hold the precepts (or teu sil gin jay) you must keep their body clean, keep your eating utensils clean, and make sure you do not share utensils with people not observing the festival.

They must also wear white clothing whenever possible, inflict no harm on animals, and be mindful of their thoughts and actions. Devotees also abstain from sex and alcohol during the festival.

Recipe of the Month: Grilled River Prawn with Spicy Clam Meat

1.Grilled River Prawn with Spicy Clam MeatOCTOBER’S RECIPE comes from Chef de Cuisine Santiphap Petchwao at Suan Bua Thai restaurant at Centara Grand at Central Plaza Ladprao Bangkok.

River prawns and clams are hugely popular. The sheer size and quality of the river prawns make this dish a delicious surprise – and it has become one of Suan Bua’s favourite recipes because of its vibrant flavours – fiery hot and briny, with sharp aromatic notes from the kaffir lime leaves.

The dish can be simply prepared with only a few key ingredients: Thai red curry paste, fresh kaffir lime leaves, and salty eggs.

Other main ingredients: River prawn; 40g of clam meat; 3 Tbl spoons of red curry paste; 2 Tbl spoons of palm sugar; 1 Tbl spoon of fish sauce; 2 salted egg yolks cooked; one-quarter of a Tsp of a kaffir lime leaf; 20 g of string beans; 2 pieces of Butterfly pea; 3 Tbl spoons of cookinTbl spoons of palm sugar; 1 Tbl spoon of fish sauce; 2 salted egg yolks cooked; one-quarter of a Tsp of a kaffir lime leaf; 20 g of string beans; 2 pieces of Butterfly pea; 3 Tbl spoons of cooking oil; 2 Tbl spoons of dried shrimp; and 2 pieces of coral vine flower to garnish.

Step 1:

First, deep fry the clam meat until crispy.

Step 2:

Stir-fry the red curry paste in a wok with cooking oil for around 5 minutes; add the plum sugar, 1 salted egg yolk, the dried shrimp, fish sauce and the kaffir lime leaves, which will add colour and complement the distinct, sweet flavor of the prawns.

Step 3:

Clean the prawn. Grill the prawn over charcoal for 3 minutes. The prawn meat become white and more firm.

Step 4:

Sauté the crispy deep fried clam meat with the red curry paste sauce and pour over the river prawns. After that, add some garnishes– the boiled string beans, fresh butterfly peas and a salted egg yolk roll. The final touch: a fresh coral vine flower.
