SLEEP IS UNRESERVEDLY RECOGNIZED as the most important contributor to our health. Too many people, however, put up with a less than desirable sleeping environment.

Poor quality mattresses and bed linens, sound pollution that distracts from the goal at hand and lighting that hinders the effort contribute to restless nights followed by stressful days.

Even attempts to count sheep can be an obstacle if the mind becomes active. Guests holidaying in places of incredible beauty, with exceptional experiences, should also have the opportunity to enjoy the best sleep imaginable.  And now they can with the launch of the group’s enhanced sleep standard, Sleep With Six Senses.

Working closely with internationally renowned Sleep Dr. Michael J. Breus PhD., the rollout has already begun at six of the group’s resorts, with the remainder to be fully implemented by mid-2017. All resorts opening in the future will have the program in place from day one.

So, what’s so special about sleeping with Six Senses?

Well, it starts with an online questionnaire that allows a dedicated Sleep Ambassador to prepare in advance of the guest arrival.

The questionnaire allows Six Senses to understand the relationship that a guest has with sleep and based on this information, each sleep ambassador provides their guests with tools and tips on how to improve the quality of sleep. Sleep Ambassadors are individuals who have excelled in a training program created by a passionate group of leaders at Six Senses under the leadership and guidance of Dr. Breus.

They fine tune the guest room prior to arrival to ensure all preferences are noted and prepare the guest bedroom each evening to ensure optimum sleep conditions. They are also on call each day to assist and provide support to guests. Fundamental to the guest room setup are items that have been carefully selected and tested over a period of 24 months by a team of Six Senses experts.

They are complemented by Hanse organic pillows and duvets which feature natural breathing and cooling zones to ensure the perfect temperature during sleep. High quality organic cotton sheets are made by Beaumont & Brown, and toweling and bathrobes are from Madison Collection. Building upon these quality basics, guests who wish to learn more about improving their quality of sleep can upgrade their sleep experience. The results from the sleep app will be reviewed with a Six Senses Integrated Wellness Practitioner during a 30-minute personal consultation. Based on the results, the wellness practitioner may recommend a personalized program of spa treatments and activities to help improve sleep. CENTARA HOTELS & RESORTS has extended its existing employee training package into an innovative, highly accessible, multi-level program designed to provide each staff member with precisely what they need to learn to reach the next level of their professional development.

With a definite roadmap towards succession planning and talent development schemes, Centara is paving the way for a passionate, committed staff to grow into supervisory and managerial capacities.

Nithivut Chanthai has been appointed corporate director of training & talent development. With more than seven years of experience in training and a quality educational background, Chanthai joins the Centara family after working with the parent company, Central Group – People Capability Development department as the training manager. The experience and knowledge of the Central Group provides Chanthai great insight into the Centara structure.

The will and curiosity to learn often starts with a little inspiration, so the company has provided a dedicated space – an ‘Inspiration Room’ – where staff can seek out new trends, ideas and motivating suggestions daily; plus gain insight into Centara’s values as a corporate entity.

Analyzing the needs of the individual is also an important starting point. A full analysis of each person is undertaken before Centara HR staff develops a training plan and progress calendar. Each plan seeks to incorporate both “soft” and “hard” skill training, with a particular emphasis on maintaining a healthy “work-life balance”, assisted through wellness programs that can be implemented at home if desired.

Centara has also come to believe in the power of sharing as a tool for mutual benefit, so cross-training is encouraged. In the end, people always learn new things when they teach someone else.

AVANI Riverside Bangkok Launches as first purpose-designed AVANI Hotel


AVANI Riverside Bangkok Hotel has opened its doors as the first purpose-designed AVANI property, bringing the upscale brand’s contemporary style and modern hospitality to Bangkok’s Chao Phraya riverside.

The 248-key hotel speaks to the spirit of the millennial-minded traveller, both in its product delivery and design elements.

From the top of the 26-storey hotel at the rooftop bar and pool, to the lobby, AVANI Riverside Bangkok gives guests a place to relax and unwind, and a base to start exploring nearby neighbourhoods along the river.

ATTITUDE, on the 26th floor, is Bangkok’s newest rooftop hot spot. The stylish restaurant and bar features different areas for socializing and dining, including an indoor dinner lounge with a DJ booth, an open show kitchen, a wine wall and an outdoor restaurant and bar where molecular cocktails are crafted by a team of mixologists.

During the day, the rooftop terrace is the ideal place to enjoy uninterrupted views of the city while relaxing at the impressive infinity pool, enjoying light bites from the pool menu. New Corporate PR Director at Centara

In her new job, Montakarn will be instrumental in overseeing the company’s brand image and reputation through PR, as well as strengthening relationships with local and international media, social influencers and overseas representative offices.

She also takes responsibility for promoting internal communications and consolidation of PR efforts across the PR, sales & marketing teams in Centara’s owned and managed properties worldwide.

Montakarn has more than 11 years of experience in public relations, integrated marketing communications and media strategy. She has served as managing director of Grey Matter Communications Co. Ltd, and previously worked for several years as a consultant and a copywriter in the public relations division of J. Walter Thompson (JWT).

Prior to joining the team at Centara, she was responsible for corporate communications at Mitsubishi Motors (Thailand) Ltd. She holds a postgraduate diploma and a bachelor of arts (English) from Thammasat University.

THIS MONTH’S RECIPE — Rock Lobster Satay – is a special dish from Baan Vijitt restaurant by The Vijitt resort Phuket.

At Bann Vijitt Restaurant, a 62-year-old Sino –Portuguese mansion located in The Vijitt Resort Phuket, guests will experience a part of the history of this resort. The house was built as a weekend home for the owner’s family and now it is opened as a fine dining restaurant serving dinner.

Part of Vijitt’s over-all mission is to share a real Thai experience, menu and concept which focuses on the cuisine of the south of Thailand.

Vijitt Lobster-satayIt has created an exclusive and unique menu to give guests an opportunity to sample some of the tastes and flavours that are unique to this part of Thailand. Many of the dishes are less likely to be found on the menus of the Thai restaurants.

The dish is fairly easy to prepare:

Fresh Andaman Rock lobster from Andaman Sea, marinate with Thai herbs and spices, cumin seed, turmeric, coriander powder, and then char gilled. Serve it with Thai peanut dip and cucumber, shallot, coriander in a sweet and sour sauce.
