Get ready for a refreshing new spa experience

A NEW AND PIONEERING SPA CONCEPT has launched in Bangkok’s Central Festival Eastville.

The brain child of Centara Hotels & Resorts, ‘Refresh Zone’ offers an innovative retail spa experience packaged in its modern, fun and vibrant façade, which targets the high-volume, value-driven spa industry in shopping centres and stand-alone locations throughout Thailand.

The 2017 openings are scheduled for Central Festival Chiang Mai, Central Festival Udon Thani, CentralWorld in Bangkok and Central Hat Yai, with the company’s business aim to have four spa locations opening every year.

“Refresh Zone reimagines the retail spa concept and reflects our recognition of the modern-minded consumer’s need for convenience, simplicity and of course, revitalization in their fast-paced world,” said Thirayuth Chirathivat, CEO of Centara Hotels and Resorts.

“This unique spa concept offers modern Thai treatments that can be undertaken without advanced bookings or lengthy consultations, in a vibrant and immersive environment all Refresh Zone therapists are trained to a high professional standard and the company has instituted a ‘Triple R’ Point system to ensure a consistent culture of high quality service, product and experiential delivery.”

Refresh Zone is designed to refresh your energy, recharge your body and renew your attitude. Its spa therapists are called ‘Massage Magicians’ – they have magic hands (and wands too) and ensure customers walk out re-energized.

The spa offers a ‘one-stop refreshing shop’ where customers get everything they need, even all at the same time, under one roof.

Refresh Zone’s menu consists of treatments targeted at time-poor, tech and new media-savvy retail customers who are looking to combine services for maximum value and efficiency – such as foot massages performed while phones recharge and Segafredo coffee or spa candy are consumed.

The new spa concept store is the first ‘spa club’ in Thailand and there are a number of benefits, including free workshops, treatment discounts, exclusive events and more.

Members of the 1 Card can also redeem points all year round. Refresh Zone’s smart menu of ‘treatment combos’ similarly ensure that no time is wasted – clients can undertake ‘3-in-1 treatments’ in which a flexible trio of therapies can be enjoyed concurrently.

Clients begin their experience within ‘The Portal’ where they can meet with friends, book treatments, buy drinks, snacks and retail items.

‘The Refresh Lounge’ is where customers slip into relaxed mode with foot massages while seated in custom-made chairs complete with charging ports; they then move into ‘The Restyle Studio’, which contains beauty experts who pamper clients with manicures, pedicures, hair washes and re-styles.

For massages, facials and body treatments, clients head to the ‘Revive Pods’ area.

“Supported by extensive resources at Centara Hotels & Resorts, which currently manages more than 30 spas throughout South East Asia and Middle East, as well as the Central Retail Group, Refresh Zone provides a brand new spa experience that matches the lifestyles and evolving demands of new generations of consumers.

“The opening of our first retail spa, and arrival of a very new concept to the market, demonstrates Centara Hotels and Resorts’ relentless efforts in continuing to evolve and thrive in the modern market,” said Mr. Chirathivat.

Four Seasons Samui offers two new coconut-based treatments

four-seasons-samui-spa

IT’S NOT REALLY SURPRISING that the spa at Four Seasons Samui is offering two new coconut-based treatments, considering that Koh Samui is also known as Coconut Island, and that much of the resort is covered by coconut trees.

In fact, every effort was made to avoid cutting down any of the trees during the construction of the resort.

The SPA’s new treatments – Kala Coconut and Tree of Life.

The Kala Coconut, which is one of the spa’s signature treatments, is a unique fragrant, nourishing massage that features a coconut shell and warm streams of coconut oil. It’s described as a medium-to-strong massage that uses flowing, nurturing strokes to ease and soothe your body.

The Tree of Life, a three-hour treatment and one of the spa’s Fragrant Cocooning Rituals, is also coconut fused and is designed to help you recall your roots in a treatment that evokes family rituals as you’re washed with tamarind leaf water and coconut soap, followed by a warm natural coco shell massage with warm streams of coconut oil.

The Red-Whiskered Bulbul and Phuket Marriott

IF YOU GO TO PHUKET MARRIOTT, you’ll see a number of images of the Red-Whiskered Bulbul incorporated all around the resort – in its furnishings, fixtures, fittings and sculptures.

The bird, which got its name from its bright red cheeks, is prized by local people for their sweet call and beautiful plumage – especially the rarer all-white breeds. Its call is so charming and distinctive that it once captured the heart of royalty.

Recognizing the importance of this bird, Queen Sirikit of Thailand established an annual bird-singing contest in Narathiwat – a province in southern Thailand. This contest was intended to build stronger community relations in Narathiwat, giving the red-whiskered bulbul truly has a royal seal of approval.

The red-whiskered bulbul is quite rare, and it is believed that seeing one can bring good luck.

So if you see a red-whiskered bulbul at the resort, remember to treat it with respect – it represents the life and soul of the southern Thai community. Locals have them in beautiful cages. One bird in each in order to make them sing and go for the bird voice competition.

Also interesting is if they sing well and their voice is above the normal level, they are valued at more than 100,000 THB.

Phuket Marriott was officially opened in June 2016 as a completely refurbished resort. It was previously operated by Imperial Adamas.

Located on the sandy beach of Nai Yang, considered one of the most scenic area of Phuket, the 180-room resort is surrounded with tropical vegetation and lush green forest within the Sirinath National Park.

It is just a 10-minute drive from Phuket International Airport and adjacent to the old town of Nai Yang along with numerous natural attractions and scenic hot spots.

On hand for the official opening, Karl Hudson, area vice-president, Thailand, Vietnam, Philippines, Cambodia & Japan of Marriott International, noted that Marriott had signed an agreement with TCC Land Asset World in 2013 to develop seven hotels and resorts in Thailand.

42-lobby_reflecting_pool_evening_3247_v2“We successfully opened Hua Hin Marriott Resort and Spa in March and are delighted to welcome this Phuket resort under our flagship Marriott Hotels brand. This recent addition of Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach increases our total portfolio in Thailand to 18.”

Phuket welcomes approximately 12 million visitors per year, mostly tourists from European and Asian countries. Phuket is one of the largest contributors to Thailand’s tourism industry, bringing around 200 billion Baht to the country each year.

“The opening of Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach, will address the needs of both local and international travelers,” said David Ippersiel, general manager of the Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, Nai Yang Beach.

Upon arrival, guests are greeted with signature welcome drinks in the open-air Greatroom with views and the fresh Andaman breeze.

Guest rooms are designed in two unique styles: traditional-Thai with relaxing earth tones, or a more sleek-contemporary décor with modern and innovative touches.

A choice of several restaurants and bars is available at Phuket Marriott Resort and Spa, offering both Thai and international cuisine with personalized service and local chefs.

The Andaman Kitchen, an all-day dining restaurant, features a wide array of dishes while the beachfront Big Fish Restaurant & Bar serves fresh seafood and offers a wide range of beverages, from local signature drinks to international cocktails. Afternoon tea is served in the resort’s open-air lobby lounge.

The resort also features a range of facilities — from its large lagoon-inspired swimming pool to a fully equipped 24 hour fitness centre, the luxurious Quan Spa with its world-renowned signature treatments to the beachside pirate-themed Kid’s Club.

The resort also has a 126-square-metre ballroom and several function rooms, all with natural daylight, that make it ideal for various types of events, ranging from private parties to exclusive seaside weddings.
