AT SALA MANUI COENGMON BEACH RESORT you can experience the gentler side of Thai New Year with a full-day schedule of traditional activities that start this Thursday. The festivities include:
Bathing a Buddha image with rose scented water (8 – 11 a.m.), a long drum parade (2 p.m.), and water-pouring ceremony to ask for blessings from elders (3 p.m.).
The day’s celebrations culminate with a Thai buffet starting at 7 p.m., with dinner entertainment including Thai music and dance, a muay talay contest, and fire show.
There will be a traditional Songkran at SALA Samui Chaweng Beach Resort, where you can welcome Thai New Year with traditional Songkran activities. It’s open to all guests staying with at the resort on Thursday.
Events throughout the day include rod nam dam hua — the ritual of pouring scented water into the palms or feet of parents and elders to ask for blessings — a long drum parade, festive water splashing, building a sand pagoda on the beach, and a Thai Night market with food stalls set up on the beachside lawn.
