THE RESULTS ARE IN AND Six Senses Hotels Resorts Spas has every reason to be delighted with its combined sustainability figures gathered from all properties in 2019. Meaningful and measurable, the figures are based on energy and water consumption, solid waste and waste diversion, indicating that their industry-leading sustainability vision is flourishing.
Initiated in 2012, and led by the group’s Vice President of Sustainability Jeff Smith, individual properties monitor and measure their environmental efforts. All of the group’s hotels and resorts contribute to Cornell University’s Hotel Sustainability Benchmarking program, which compares their performance against a global dataset of their peers.
In 2019, Six Senses sustainability data reveals that as a group:
3,48 kWh energy consumption decrease per occupied room in 2019
422,895 pounds (191,822 kilograms) of compost and natural fertilizer given back to the earth
164,828 pounds (74,765 kilograms) of organic fruit and vegetables grown for guests and communities
1,802,794 glass water bottles replaced disposable plastic bottles
22 per cent of solid waste diverted from landfills
3,549 meaningful local jobs created
109,000 free-range organic eggs contributed from happy Six Senses hens compared to 73,000 in 2018
28,126 kWh generated renewable electricity increase
143 pounds (65 kilograms) scrubs for spas by repurposing coffee grounds and other natural ingredients from the garden
Over the past 16 years, Six Senses has been bottling its own still and sparkling drinking water. By establishing on-site filtration and bottling facilities, each resort eliminates the transportation impacts and use of plastic water bottles. Six Senses drinking water has proved a taste-test winner with guests also.
Each Six Senses resort and hotel features and Earth Lab, which promotes sustainable living in inspirational and innovative ways. The space is used to host workshops that empower guests and community members to learn about and connect more closely with the natural world.

Sustainability Funds are managed at each Six Senses property with sales added directly from house-bottled water and popular stuffed animal mascots that reflect each location. Sponsored projects in 2019 totaled US$ 626,641.
1,084,680 people gained access to improved medical care

19,974 kilograms of trash was collected voluntarily by our Hosts – enough to fill enough to fill 3 garbage trucks!
1,719 hours of teaching was directly conducted or supported by us
