Six Senses appoints first vice-president of sustainability

SAmber_Marie_Beard_hrIX SENSES HOTELS RESORTS & SPAS, a pioneer of sustainable high-end tourism and its proactive environmental policies, has appointed its first vice-president of sustainability.

Her name is Amber Marie Beard, who has almost a decade of professional experience in sustainability. Amber’s high-profile career has taken her to locales around the world, starting in Boston, where she delivered enriched levels of environmental and social returns for Lend Lease, one of the world’s largest property developers.

Relocating to Hong Kong, Amber joined China Resources, one of China’s largest government-owned organizations, working on the city’s first existing building sustainable redevelopment project that was targeting LEED Gold certification.

A move to Singapore saw her as head of sustainability with Sustainability Ltd, an investment company managing niche real estate opportunities in China, Japan and Australia, where she focused on delivering heightened levels of sustainability while delivering attractive financial returns.

In preparation for her career, Amber graduated with high honors, dean’s high honors and summa cum laude with a degree in architecture from the University of Wisconsin. She is a LEED Accredited Professional, an active member of the Asia Pacific Real Estate Association and a member of the Real Estate Equity Securitization Alliance Sustainability Committee.

Announcing Amber’s appointment, Bernhard Bohnenberger, president of Six Senses said, “In this new position at Six Senses, sustainability will take on an even greater strategic role within the organization as it is elevated to the level of the executive committee.”

He noted that Pegasus Capital Partners, which acquired the company in 2012, has over $2.2 billion in sustainably focused assets under management. With this new appointment, Six Senses recognizes the importance of prioritizing sustainability, “illustrating once again that environmental preservation and cultural conservation can be achieved without compromise to the award-winning experiences for which the company is renowned”.

Bangkok named world’s top tourist destination

BKK at night

THE THIRD ANNUAL Global Destination Cities Index released by MasterCard puts Bangkok into the number one spot as the world’s top tourist destination, surpassing London, and New York City for the first time.

With 15.98 million visitors projected for the capital city this year, 2013 marks the first time any Asian city is on track to be the top-ranked tourist destination.

The study found that Bangkok is experiencing a large increase in its number of tourists — up 9.8% from 2009. That compares to New York‘s increase at 5% and London’s at 3.8%. Paris, meanwhile, saw a small dip in its number of tourists(negative 0.7%).

The results are based on data MasterCard collected from governments, central banks, related public agencies and airlines so far this year, while providing projections for the remainder of 2013.

Evason Hua Hin redefines brand and will separate into two resorts

Evason Hua Hin

EVASON HUA HIN is returning to its original configuration of 185 guestrooms and villas and will separate from the adjoining 55 pool villas, which were originally developed as a Hideaway resort and consolidated with Evason in 2012.

“The Evason brand has a very relaxed family orientation, with a nod towards affordability”, said Managing Director Alan Thomas. “The 55 pool villa entity being divested from Evason, is really focused on a quite separate market.

“This move will give us the opportunity to enhance the facilities at Evason Hua Hin to better address our prime target markets”.

Evason Hua Hin will be a stand-alone brand from Aug. 1, 2013, when the next-door pool villa entity will close for rebranding and a program of refurbishing by its new operator.

It will be business as usual at the popular Evason Hua Hin, which includes 40 private villas with plunge pools, plus 145 spacious guestrooms. Its unique Earth Spa will become part of the Evason, as are the three diverse restaurants, the poolside duplex bar, tennis courts and recreation facilities, fitness room, Children’s Club and conference facilities for up to 200 people.

Grande Asset acquired both properties from Owendelle Company, which currently operates the combined property under a licence agreement from Six Senses, owner of the Evason brand. Evason Hua Hin will continue to operate under the licence agreement.

Reservations being held for the 185-key Evason Hua Hin will not be affected. All effort will be made to relocate reservations being held for the 55-key rebranded entity.
“To this end, all guests holding reservations will be personally contacted to make alternative and appropriate arrangements. All hosts currently employed by the resorts will be retained and assigned to either of the new entities.”
